cut! device

Hito Steyerl Cut! Reproduction & Recombination, 2012

Hito Cut!.jpg

cuts / altering space / conceptual leaps

cut! device explores the paradox of a  the cut as a process that connects and disconnects simultaneously. I related this concept to Batia Suter's practice wherein she collates and connects found imagery from unconnected space and time. Using this concept, I worked with the idea of practicing in a reverse of Batia Suter by instead creating cuts between objects belonging to the same spatiotemporal reality and documenting what occurred in the process.
